Designer Sayaka Ito of Japanese firm Nendo created this new Twig Chair for furniture brand Alias.

From Nendo: Since the Italian furniture brand ALIAS specialises in furniture made from aluminium, the idea was to create a chair made of four aluminium “twigs” and a seat. While the aluminium structure of all of the chairs is the same, five upper portion unit variations feature differing shapes, colours, and materials. A number of different shapes and sitting experiences are achieved by fitting these units onto the four legs to create a T-shape on the tops of the legs, connect sections, or add a high or low backrest.

Choices for seat material include wood, plastic, and fabric. When the seat and upper portion is removed, the aluminium frames of multiple seats can be stacked, making storage convenient and reducing potential transportation costs.

The hub will also have retail stores and a Westfield Shopping Mall. The design was created by Calatrava using his signature skeletal structure and is made in glass, steel with marble floors and walls allowing natural light to pass through the platforms.

Mexican design studio Shift have created the U32-1, a metal pendant lamp for brand Lampslite. Constructed entirely from metal, U32-1 explores the concept of modern lighting, taking heavily from contemporary urban trends; particularly the tension and structure of the modern city landscape. Composed from two icosahedric geometries the lamp presents a distinct angular dialogue, between surface and frame.

Japanese architecture studio Nikken Sekkei was asked to design a new “low cost” terminal for Narita International Airport using a very limited budget, the result is this minimal structure and design.

From the architects:

“Narita International Airport Terminal 3 is exclusively for LCC (low-cost carriers). Precisely so, we focused on creating a completely “low-cost airport” with the architecture and design. The budget for constructing this terminal was approximately half of the usual amount. To cut costs, we opted not to install the typical moving walkways or illuminated signs. Instead, to offer an exciting walking experience that is easy on the feet, we implemented running tracks used for track and field, and added signage for user-friendly guidance. The key to the architecture and design is “more than 2 into 1.” Consolidating two or more functionalities into one in pursuit of economic reasonability. In short, treasuring designs “with a twist without spending a lot of money.” It would be our great honor if Narita International Airport Terminal 3 is frequently used and forever loved by economically savvy travelers. When the time arrives for 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, we look forward to seeing people from all around the world having fun walking on these blue tracks.”

The Etoile (star) pendant lamp by italian designer Adriano Rachele for Slamp looks like a ballerina’s tutu as it lifts and falls in response to the dancer. This exuberant lamp is made from our refractive layers of Lentiflex® combined with LED light sources. For an ambient effect the lamp throws light towards the ceiling, while single light sources along the central stem light it from the inside. A further source points downwards as if to light a table. Available in two sizes to suit both domestic and more commercial applications.
