Oblong is a bold, contemporary take on the classic rectangular timepiece created by Kilo, a design studio headed by Lars Larsen for danish brand Bulbul.

A hybrid of past and present with a distinctly modernist edge. Oblong is made from the best, most resilient components available, such as Italian leather, sapphire crystal, steel mesh bands from Pforzheim in Germany and a Swiss-made movement with 10 years of battery life.

Every single component on the Oblong watch is custom-made for Bulbul; from the hands, the crown, the buck and the loop, to the leather straps, the case back and the sapphire crystal glass.

This digital inhaler is a practical and innovative asthma device created by design firm Cardboard Helicopter for Global Prime Healthcare.

From the designers: Global Prime Healthcare approached us with the desire to add an innovative delivery mechanism for self-management of asthma and COPD. We developed a digital inhaler to include a digital readout to allow patients to know more about the inhaled dosage, the amount of pumps that remain, as well as insight about the optimal moments to use the device, all in real time. The intuitive application was also developed to detect impairment in medication usage, and boasts enhanced product stability and increased lung penetration of the medication. The back lit LCD screen links to a cartridge, providing a consistent readout for patients so they won’t ever be without medication when they need it. The design went through months of hands-on testing and ethnography development to ultimately produce an inhaler that was easy to use, ergonomic and intuitive for asthma and COPD sufferers of all ages.

Having completed extensive research on the difficulties of using an inhaler, we wanted to design the first inhaler to allow users to use their entire hand to apply pressure, instead of just an index finger. This provides children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities or arthritis with an easy and pain-free way to delivery medication through the device.

The Torsion chair by designer Natalie Musorina is designed to be made out of one single strip of plywood, painstakingly bent along a defined 3D curve to create a Mobius strip-esque shape. The concept of torsion comes into the way the wood is bent. The chair’s fabric is weaved into this very wooden strip providing a tensile seating device within a torsion bent wood strip.

Timo Niskanen founder and designer of Helsinki based store Himmee created Loop, a beautiful minimalistic lamp with a touch controlled dimmer. The lamp has a sleek aluminum body with an opal acrylic diffuser, and the LED lightsource is placed inside the inner surface of the circle.

The idea for the lighting fixture came unexpectedly. One night Niskanen was walking with his dog and suddenly he noticed a loop obstacle from the mini golf track coming out from the snow. He had walked several times by the mini golf track but this time he saw the obstacle for new eyes and the basic form of the Loop lamp was born.

Trace by Studio Ayaskan, is a clock that shows the passage of time by leaving a trail of color as time passes. The design was created for Lexus Design Awards 2016 with the mentorship of Snarkitecture. The piece responds to the the theme of anticipation.

“Through “Trace”, we wanted to show that there is a connection between the past present and future. We wanted to visualise the passing of time. In order to both take a moment to reflect on the present and realise that the present not only leaves traces in our past, but also sets the path to our possible futures.”

By Tray is a minimal table and tray by Japanese designer Shigeichiro Takeuchi for Moheim.

The table is not just a functional easy to move side table but also has a serving tray integrated to it. “We believe that everyone had once wished one more function added to a product we always use. If only one more added, we could make a move more easily and smartly. A tray and a side table integrated here, By Tray Table greatly improves the functionality and even teaches us there is no limitation of it. “

By Tray is very light and can go anywhere with us, its sophisticated functionality and refined design proves that great design can improve our lives.
